Description
This auction is for everything as one lot.
Definitely not a toy for young children to play with, some components are collectors items.
The sets look 99% complete with original instruction books and boxes (which are a little battered). My friends and I played with this from mid 1960’s to early 70’s, since then stored at the bottom of the linen cupboard.
Metal strips, plates, girders etc are functional, albeit with a few dings and paint chips.
Some wheels have rubber tyres, these are 60 years old, hardened and cracking.
The clockwork and electric motors work.
The steam engine works and is amazing - I’ll try and upload a video. This 1960’s technology can only be described as a hazardous combination of inflammable methylated spirits, scalding hot water, steam under pressure, hot metal, and rapidly moving parts. Did I mention it sprays condensate over a 300mm radius. Instructions are on the box. Use only in a well ventilated area - vital to treat with caution and respect. Trademe mentions adding a link to Youtube within photos, not working for me. Hope this works as an alternative - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaW6ne2RnNE
Yes I weighed it all. This auction is for six kilograms of delicious mechanical engineering goodness! And the Meccano magazines are another 5 Kg...
The Meccano magazines are not just (or even mostly…) about Meccano. They have articles on a wide range of Hobby, Transport, and Technical information from the period.
Outfit number 5 Conversion set 5a (so upgrade to number 6). Gears Outfit B No 1 Clockwork motor with original key - has stop and reverse controls. Emebo Electric Motor - has reduction gearing built in - needs 4 to 12V Meccano Steam Engine - I believe made by Mamod. Meccano Magazines - 50 assorted from 1968 to1972
Pick up from Royal Oak area. This is big, heavy, and with lots of loose parts, not sure if shipping is practical.
We are downsizing, not enough space for everything I’d like to hold on to…
