Listing description: Working model steam locomotive, 5" gauge, complete with water/coal tender. Made by my late father, Bill Jackson in 1977, who was a well known steam loco builder in ChCh for many years and was also well respected among Model Engineering Societies throughout NZ from the 50's to the mid 80's. This loco is No.22 in a line of 25 steam locos hand built by my Dad over his lifetime of 75 yrs. Each loco took Dad between 12 and 18 months to build. He built his first at age 16 in 1924 and that loco is still running somewhere in NZ. The loco I have is a model of the "Royal Scot" which used to run, I believe, between London and Glasgow (or Edinburgh) in the 1930's and 40's. This loco was being run and maintained by my brother until the ChCh earthquake in 2011 destroyed the 5" track he had built around his home. The loco has not been run since the earthquake and as my brother has now passed away, I do not have the knowledge to "fire it up" so it needs to go to a good home and be looked after the way it deserves. It is a beautiful piece of quality engineering and made by a very skilled man who's passion in life was his steam locos. I have looked after and stored this loco since the ChCh quake. Overall it is 2 metres long with tender connected and is very heavy, so freighting is out of the question. This is a rare piece of history as the very skilled men who had the talent to build this type of working model have unfortunately all but passed away, their skills and talents with them, so obviously there will be very few, if any, of these becoming available. This loco was on Trade Me in September but was withdrawn by me because of resistance from family members who were against the sale, as this is the LAST loco in the family out of the 25 my Dad built, but I have convinced my family that I don't have the skills needed to run and maintain it so it needs to go to someone who can operate it and give it the life it deserves. Included is the wooden, wheeled trolley I recently built for the loco.
