Description
Up for auction is a randomly selected Greek bronze 'dolphin' coin issued in the city of Olbia (Ukraine). These coins were minted between the 5th-3rd Century BC and were found in Ukraine.
The 'dolphin' coins of Olbia are particularly interesting given they were produced through casting (not hammering). Their shape also makes them quite distinctive compared to other Greek coins of the time.
The 'dolphin' motif is particularly significant for Olbia and other Black Sea Greek cities given the abundance of bottle-nose dolphins found in the region.
Each coin is unique giving the crude form of casting used and the variations of designs. Some coins have eyes, dorsal & mid fins, or Greek legends.
Each bid will entitle you to one randomly selected 'dolphin' coin from Olbia, minted between 500-200 BC. These will come packaged with a vinyl coinflip and information insert.
