I suspect this display shelf was once the gallery from a desk or tall sideboard. It’s probably kauri, and given heavy use of spindles, it will be from a piece dated 1880/1890. There is a ding in the top front left of the gallery rail, otherwise there is only minimal visible wear. The piece that shows most wear is the shelf surface, which of course you do not see once it is hung on the wall. No borer.

There are two brass latches to hang it by.
