The Story of Te Waharoa, a chapter in early New Zealand history together with sketches of ancient Maori life and history by J. A. Wilson, first published in 1866 this 2nd edition was published by Whitcombe and Tombs Ltd Christchurch 1907, and the preface to this edition was done in 1906. Hard covered book of 255 pages.

The condition is not fantastic, it certainly is well used. The cover has a lot of wear and the spine is faded as well as along the top of the cover. The page edges look to be cut quite rough, this is the way the book was made but the contents are still in good condition, some of the pages are of a slightly different length but this is the way the book has been put together also. There are stains and foxing throughout the book in places, probably more at the beginning and end of the book. There is an old price in pencil at the top of the first page in.

The following pages furnish a truthful narrative of some past events, which occurred in New Zealand, during the life time of the father of the present Chief, William Thompson and form a chapter in the history of Auckland, South of Auckland, before Auckland was Auckland. The author says, I have not sort to multiply horrors, if much has been said, much also remains unsaid, for there was no lack of materials. Very repelling scenes have been omitted.
