In and around Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park, drought, compounded by continued economic hardship, is threatening livelihoods and wildlife. The recent drought, which is going into its second year, has brought few and erratic rains to the area, putting both communities and animals in a precarious situation. Maintaining conservation efforts that provide water to wildlife and community development initiatives that support local people are extremely important during these difficult times. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic halting tourism across the globe, Imvelo Safari Lodges strives to continue to pump water to 16 waterholes in and around Hwange National Park and to support its frontline communities through the school lunch programme, community-led wildlife protection and anti-poaching units and water security projects. All profit from the sale of this print will go towards supporting Imvelo’s conservation and community efforts. These efforts, given the persistent drought and the stalling of incoming tourism funds, have never been so important to sustain Hwange’s magnificent wildlife.
