Perfect Wave at Mount Maunganui Beach

This painting captures the magic moment when a perfect wave curls towards the ocean surface, forming a cylindrical “tube”. Making the moment even more special is the fact that this wave breaks unridden – a rare gift sent to be appreciated and to form the basis for many surfer’s dreams. Painting in energetic, swirling lines the ocean unfolds upon itself as the iconic “Mount” forms a uniquely New Zealand backdrop to the scene. I was inspired after a day of perfect surf in Mount Maunganui and felt that the scene needed to be brought to life upon canvas, to bring the essence of surfing to someone’s wall.
