Description
Jane Simcock is an artist living in Auckland.
A dedicated people-watcher, she is committed to painting the figure, and is endlessly fascinated by the foibles and frailties of modern man. Her portraits are not intended to be read as studies of specific people, but, rather, as observations on human behaviour or states of being. She also enjoys the occasional foray into still-life painting. Her work is owned by collectors in New Zealand and America.
She has a BA in Art History and English and a Pg Dip in painting. She has attended several courses at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney and maintains a regular life-drawing practice. She has had solo shows at the McPherson Gallery in 2004 ("Glorious Mothers") and 2009 (“The Aunts”), and at Black Asterisk in 2011 (“Notes from a New York travel diary”). She has also participated in various group shows.
