Rodney Fumpston is a well known NZ artist Rodney Fumpston has been making prints for nearly three decades now, and is one of the few artists in New Zealand to focus on the print medium, as he finds it uniquely suitable for the expression of his ideas and it means he remains physically involved with every stage of the painstaking process. Particularly well known for his etchings, the artist’s work contrasts crisp-edged colour planes with the sensuality of gestural lines, deftly manipulating some of the most challenging printmaking techniques to create arresting and intelligent work. He is a perfectionist who has achieved astonishing mastery of this method, enjoying the clarity and precision of thought that precedes the creation of a successful image. Rodney’s works are held in many public and private collections, including the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and the Auckland Art Gallery.
