345 Essential Spelling Word Cards for 'Daily Five'!!!

This Resource, which will be emailed to you as a .pdf file, contains all 345 words included in the Essential Spelling Lists 1-7 plus the Commonly Misspelt Words, will be a great addition to your Daily 5 Word Work.

The cards can be

• Laminated, cut and put on to a bookring.
• Enlarged and put up in the classroom.
• Reduced and glued into students books.

There are 10 cards (10cm x 5cm) to an A4 page. Each list of words is colour coded with a different colour for each List. (in the order of the Colour Wheel as teachers are familiar with the order of these colours, should words get mixed up – Red, Yellow, Dk Blue, Green, Orange, Turquoise, Purple, Gold)

Information for Parents

The Essential Spelling Lists from the New Zealand Council of Educational Research (NZCER) are lists based on the words children use most often in their writing.

The lists are arranged in alphabetical order and put in 7 lists according to how often the words are used. The 290 words in Lists 1-7 make up about three quarters of most writing.

• Essential Spelling List 1 (10 words, 25% of writing)
• Essential Spelling List 2 (20 words; 15% of writing)
• Essential Spelling List 3 (30 words; 10% of writing)
• Essential Spelling List 4 (50 words; 10% of writing)
• Essential Spelling List 5 (50 words; 5% of writing)
• Essential Spelling List 6 (70 words; 5% of writing)
• Essential Spelling List 7 (60 words; 3% of writing)
• Essential Spelling List 8 (55 Commonly Misspelt Words)
