Letter Sound Recognition is an important part of learning to read.

This ‘Teaching Timesaver’ is a 16 page resource pack that provides students with a number of opportunities to practise this important skill by Matching Letter Sound Cards.

This resource, which will be emailed to you as a .pdf file, contains

• 26 Alphabet cards that have the lower case letter with an appropriate picture cue, to help them get their mouth ready to make the sound. - each card is 6 cm x 8.5 cm

• 70 three letter word cards (consonant / vowel/ consonant) for students to match up with the Picture Cards.

The Word Cards can also be used as

• a sorting activity as there are 18 different Word Families
• Memory,
• Fish
• SNAP
• Odd one out

• 18 CVC Word Family cards - Each card has 4 words with the same rime.

Making the first word and then physically changing the initial letter to make the next word on the list, leads to a good understanding of Word Families

• 26 small letter tiles for students to build up the words independently
• 26 small picture cards to match with the letters

• a one page 'My Alphabet Card' that can be glued into the front of students books for easy access.
