By Then I was Thirteen by Derrick (Taffy) Rees is such an Amazing Book in that one could be excused for believing hat it is more fiction than fact. Very much of Angela's Ashes and Leaving Liverpool, the author describes how he left the Utterly Depressed Rhonda Valley n Wales to join the Lady Northcote Farm School in Victoria, Australia at the age of 13.
It is a passionate story of life in a different country and time. The foresight, drive and courage and the desire to change it's path.
Born in the depression of the Welsh coal fields, Taffy set out on an unbelievable adventure at the age of 13 together with his 2 younger sisters. They left Wales bound for farm schools at Bacchus Marsh in Victoria.
