Making and decorating wedding cakes* can become a high-income business. (Remember, you can practise your decorating on an upturned cardboard box!)

*Tell the world you also do special cakes for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, silver weddings, company achievements, new building openings, anything which has a celebration aspect!

Tip: Ask the mayor's secretary what ribbon-cutting ceremonies are coming up. "Will the mayor cut a cake?" (Of course!)

Tip: Ask around. "How much do you charge to make a decorated wedding cake?" You'll be amazed at the high prices $$$ people pay.

If you enjoy baking cakes and you enjoy seeing the smiles when your clients see what you've created, this could be a new income earner avenue for you.

Don't fret about becoming snowed under with orders. When you have one cake to do and another in 'back-up', you tell your next customer: "Oh, I'm sorry. I'm fully booked until (date)." They will wait.

Tip: Get a 50% deposit before you begin baking. That covers all your materials. It also means you won't get a 'no show' after you've made their cake.

Tip: After you've made your first few cakes, increase your fee by 10% per month until you are the most expensive wedding cake supplier in your region.
