Having driven down the length of this river many times (for a good portion of the river, anyway, between Ngaruawahia and Cambridge, where the road hugs it, and then picking it back up where the river first leaves Lake Taupo) I've seen the Meremere Power Station dismantled, and many parts of the roads and bridges upgraded. And, of course, I have been aware of the tapping into its waters for the Auckland Water Supply (controversial at the time)."
