Description
I have come to realise that I need to sell my collectable books.
I bought this from an Op Shop in West Auckland simply because it was the most spectacular book I had ever seen.
On the North Western motorway a few years later Ans Westra was interviewed for a 50th anniversary edition as I drove home. This first edition (37000 copies) was removed from schools after its release. I am not familiar with the confirmation of first editions, and there are a number of editions, so please do your own research - photo on the last page seems to have all the key information. 32 pages. 37000 copies.
One photo shown was debated and removed when re-released. Controversies were eventually settled, according to the interview I heard, and Ans Westra is now celebrated in both Aotearoa and in her birthplace, the Netherlands. Most of the copies though were destroyed making this a rare copy that has floated around, ambergris on the tide.
Hard to Find books has copies starting at $200. Not sure of the condition of these books. Please request any pictures if you need more clarity about the books condition. See two photos of wear on cover and also staples binding the book which have some rust. The book holds together well but needs gentle handling.
It is worth looking into the story around this book. Very interesting.
I hope a collector can value this exceptional book. I am willing to wait, but if it does not sell after a few months I will have to put the price up or shelf it for a few more years. About ten years ago it was worth a little more than $100. Current price is excellent value.
