Description
By the Waters of Babylon: The Art of A. Lois White by Nicola Green
Signed by author for ex-owner
Published in association with the Auckland City Art Gallery, the book was designed to complement the exhibition of A. Lois White's work held in 1994. The book is based on Nicola Green's M.A. thesis and concentrates on the thirties and forties. There are chapters of biography and commentary, and colour plates of the paintings.
A. Lois White was a figure painter, social commentator, portraitist and creator of decorative allegories. The artist blended traditional pictorial interests with Art Deco eroticism and serious political statement. Exquisite, jewel like paintings, are reproduced here in 47 colour plates.
Paperback, first edition 1993, 128pages, in very good condition, Ernst & Young' sticker on end page
