Koro. J W Stack. (1909) 1984 facsimile edition. Capper Press, Christchurch
Te Koro’s father, Ihumatanui, went from Kaiapoi to Kaikoura and settled at Omihi. Te Koro was captured by Te Rauparaha when he was a teenager and sent to Kapiti Island and Porirua. Whilst in the North Island he also lived for a time with a relative on the Whanganui River. He learnt of Christianity under Octavius Hadfield In the 1840s the South Island captives were returned to Canterbury Te Koro lived at first on Banks Peninsula, then Kaiapoi, the West Coast and back to Kaiapoi
James Stack, himself a Minister, tells of the life and death of Te Koro and his work to bring Christianity to his people. It gives insights into the habits and lifestyles of the Maori at the time. The Church and religion play large part in this story
