Napier’s Medicine Makers By Des Harris & Don Millar
A Brief History of Chemists & Druggists 1860 to the 1950s
Contains numerous photos throughout.
The authors of this book have attempted to piece together a good deal of the information available about Napier’s pharmacists from the l860’s to the l950’s. We have for many years had an active interest in the history of pharmacy and the objects and artefacts associated with that profession. When we ?rst discussed the possibility of this publication, we envisaged including pharmacists from all parts of Hawke’s Bay, however the extent of information on Napier pharmacists alone, made us realise that we should “start small” and con?ne our initial research to the area We know best. Our future attempt may Well be to research other Hawke’s Bay pharmacists, several of whom have contributed significantly to the history of communities in the wider region. Most sections of the book are in chronological sequence so that readers can trace more readily the progressive history of Napier’s early pharmacists.
