Description
The Elingamite and its Treasure Wade Doak
Hodder and Stoughton, 1969 first edition hardcover, 145mm x 222mm, 192pp. B/w photos.
On a foggy November morning in 1902 the "Elingamite", a passenger steamer on the run from Sydney to Auckland, was wrecked with a loss of forty-five lives on one of the lonely Three Knights Islands, north of New Zealand. The drama of the wreck, the tragedy, and tension of the rescue, the treasure that went down with the ship have kept the tragedy fresh in the minds of many people in Australia and New Zealand. Then came the news that Wade Doak, Kelvin Tarlton and a party of divers, had rediscovered the wreck, and brought up gold and silver from the bottom of a dangerous sea.
Dustjacket has a little wear, name inside, otherwise in a very good condition.
