Description
Two of the most influential books ever written, to be auctioned as one lot.
The Origin of Species Charles Darwin
London: John Murray, 1898.
195mm x 130mm x 35mm 432 pages.
In FINE condition in the publisher's original green cloth. Covers and gilt very bright, minor browning to endpapers as usual.
This is the highly sought-after sixth edition, in which the word 'evolution' was used for the first time, (although Darwin also used the word in The Descent of Man). It is also the last edition that Darwin revised during his lifetime.
The prices for this book worldwide just keep going up. It is rare to find a copy in such exceptional condition as this. You should not confuse this edition with copies published by various US publishers - the John Murray-published sixth edition is the only one to own for a serious collector.
