I am Chickenman and I love fresh Eggs !!

Commercial Producers get rid of their hens at the end of their first commercial lay around 15-16 months.
The Brown Shaver and the Hy-line ( another commercial layer in NZ ) lay in their first year approx 300 eggs. In the second season this drops off by 15% which means they will lay 260 eggs in the second season. From a commercial perspective this is unacceptable and the commercial producers replace their entire flock with new birds called pullets or Point of Lay.

Hens that have finished their first commercial season can continue to lay for many more years to come but just not in the same large quantities that they do in their first season.

There are some in the industry who state that Ex-Battery hens do not integrate into free range life.

By buying from us you are supporting the movement for battery hens to become free range birds with free range eggs. Also Free Range Hens that have finished their first season are killed off. They still have years of laying left in them.

If you want a specific number of hens please ask a question. I will sent up an auction for you

Collection is from Cust.

Comments from previous clients

" would like to say to any prospective buyer that I bought 2 of these last year and I can't tell you what a delight it was watching them learn to be free range, and how much they love their new life. I am getting an egg every day from both and they are so bold they will get into a hole when I'm digging in the garden to look for worms. Because they have no fear of humans they follow anyone looking for food and regularly raided the EQC repair men's lunches-awesome girls.
