A particular feature of this Starrett unit that sets it above similarly priced other magnetic bases on Trademe is the clever single adjusting screw that tightens or loosens all 3 universal ball and socket linkages with this single knob. It's far less fiddly than the ones with separate adjustments for all joints. With this you adjust the knob so joints are firm but not tight. Then place the instrument against the work being measured and tighten the knob. All done with one twist

Has industry standard 8mm dia clamp to hold a dial indicator or other measuring instrument. Its all metal except for the knobs. Yes, unlike some cheaper units even the 8mm clamp is metal! Powerfull magnetic base with normal on off knob for release.

An essential item for the lathe and milling machine and I use it on my drill press slide table as well. Stands 20 cm high, so is the ideal size for most such tools
