New Dawn Pacific Social Enterprise

New Dawn Social Enterprise is a Ministry of Social Development (MSD) and the Pacific Business Trust initiative.

What is it?

New Dawn Pacific Social Enterprise is a targeted business model, recognising that family, inclusion and a sense of community are central to the way Pacific businesses operate. Pacific business owners are not only driven by financial profits, but by social, environmental and cultural impacts too.

How did it come about?

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) and the Pacific Business Trust collaborated to launch the inaugural New Dawn Pacific Social Enterprise Summit back in June. The event gathered together Pacific leaders, changemakers and community to learn, discuss and connect with enablers impacting the social enterprise ecosystem.

What is the opportunity to get involved with?

The New Dawn Pacific Social Enterprise Summit highlighted that social enterprise has the potential to be a gamechanger for businesses who want to target the needs of their community. Consumers are increasingly conscious about where they spend their money, and are making those decisions in meaningful and mindful ways.

By leveraging social enterprise, businesses can create income generating ventures that also build strong communities. Pacific people’s connectedness to each other forms the basis of a good social enterprise targeting the needs of the community.

MSD is partnering with the Pacific Business Trust to support the development of business ideas and create mentoring networks. There are also moves afoot to host community workshops and social enterprise summits in Porirua, Waikato and Christchurch.
