Most main centres will have non-franchise specialist repairers for each brand, like repairers who specialise in BMW or Mercedes, you’ll get knowledgeable service, but labour costs are still at a premium. Parts prices can also be more costly.
Look for really well cared for examples, make sure any commonly-reported issues have been addressed, get someone who really understands the brand / vehicle to advise you before you buy and also look into your options for mechanical warranty as premium vehicles typically carry a premium. What looks like a great buy now, may be a costly car to keep on the road in the future.
