What you need to consider
As with any car, the cost of ownership goes beyond just the sticker price. Premium vehicles are well-made and many are capable of delivering reliable service even at higher mileage, but they were expensive cars when new because of the cutting edge technology and materials they use. That means maintaining a premium vehicle is often going to be a lot more expensive and specialist than say, a mainstream hatchback.
Most main centres will have non-franchise specialist repairers for each brand, like repairers who specialise in BMW or Mercedes, you’ll get knowledgeable service, but labour costs are still at a premium. Parts prices can also be more costly.
Look for really well cared for examples, make sure any commonly-reported issues have been addressed, get someone who really understands the brand / vehicle to advise you before you buy and also look into your options for mechanical warranty as premium vehicles typically carry a premium. What looks like a great buy now, may be a costly car to keep on the road in the future.
