Trade Me’s Most-Viewed Motors of 2025: From DeLoreans to Liam Lawson’s F1 First Car
Last updated: 17 December 2025
High-octane supercars, a cinematic legend, and the first set of wheels belonging to F1 star Liam Lawson have been revealed as the most-viewed Trade Me Motors listings of 2025.
Brendan Hall, Head of Trade Me Motors, says the year’s top ten list highlights a fascination with high-performance luxury, collector nostalgia, and a deep connection to motorsport history.
"This year's list proves that whether it's an ultra-exclusive supercar or a meticulously maintained classic, Kiwis are drawn to rarity and performance," Mr Hall said. "The collective asking price of the entire top 10 list equals almost four million dollars, showing that even if they aren't buying, Kiwis love to check out the top-tier end of the market."
Movie magic takes the top spot
The most-viewed listing of the year, attracting a massive 104,371 views, was a cult classic that promised a journey through time: a 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 with an asking price of $100,000.
"The DeLorean brings a huge amount of movie magic to the table," said Mr Hall. "The massive viewing numbers prove that the dream of owning a piece of pop culture history is alive and well. At a six-figure price, it’s actually a relatively accessible classic compared to some of the supercars on this list."

Securing second place with 88,633 views was a customised 2000 Subaru Forester belonging to New Zealand’s own Formula 1 driver, Liam Lawson."
This wasn’t just any old Subaru; it was Liam’s very first car," Mr Hall explained. Lawson partnered with sponsors like Subaru New Zealand and Possum Bourne Motorsport to rebuild the vehicle to a staggering 300 wheel horsepower. The car was eventually auctioned for charity, raising over $35,000 for the mental health foundation I AM HOPE.
Aspirational supercars steal the show
Luxury and performance dominated the rankings, with aspirational price tags driving massive curiosity.
The 2023 Ferrari SF90 Spider took third place with 46,797 views and an eye-watering asking price of $899,990.

Quirky finds and marine marvels
It wasn't just four-wheeled machines capturing attention. Reeling in 34,642 views was Matt Watson's 2250 UCC Stabicraft Swordfish Mojo, a serious fishing vessel priced at $219,000.

Rounding out the list were a mix of reliable classics and "discontinued" nostalgia. A 2001 Mazda RX7 (sold for $162,000) and a 1987 Land Rover Range Rover Classic proved that vintage charm still holds significant weight with the Kiwi public.
