We know there are so many amazing Kiwi out there doing the mahi every single day. Our Local Legend category has been the perfect opportunity to show a superstar you appreciate everything they do. In no particular order, meet our finalists.

Taka Peters

The cost of living has seen so many Kiwi struggling to put kai (food) on the table. Taka Peters has made it his mission to help as many people as he can by gifting food from the back of his car outside the Woolworths in Northcote.

  • “Taka Peters is a legend in the beach haven and northcote suburbs. almost every day he’s at the Lancaster or Northcote shops giving out bootloads of free food for people in need.”

  • “Rain or shine he’s out there and he truly deserves all the blessings in the world. He’s truly a legend”

  • “He’s completely judgement free and he is literally the biggest local legend on the North Shore”

Jenniene Flemming

Jenniene Flemming (or Coach J as she is called) is bringing joy to her community through her positive, uplifting and supportive Zumba classes in South Auckland. 

  • “She advocates for mental health and firmly believes exercise is a great way to help with the pressures of society, it is where I go to forget about worries and stresses for an hour and a half once a week.”

  • “She greets you with a smile and encourages you to push yourself out of your comfort zone, with a ‘fake it till you make it’ attitude. It’s all about fun!”

  • “She has two free community classes a week she runs in conjunction with community groups. One in Clendon on a Thursday Morning One in Ōtara on a Friday afternoon.”

  • “She creates a culture of family and everyone that comes on board is immediately treated that way with no judgement, open arms and kindness.”
