The HRM-TRI is designed for open-water use, cycling, and running. The reason it’s not designed for pool usage is that it doesn’t have enough ‘stick’ to hold to your body when you push off the wall.

The HRM-SWIM meanwhile is much wider, and has a sticky-like material on the band that keeps it in place on your body. It holds to your body quite well when you push off the wall.
