Description
Model: 637 – made by the very successful Atwater Kent Mfg. Co, Philadelphia, USA. The previous owner started to dismantle the radio in 1990 to undertake a restoration. Due to health issues that never happened and the current own placed it in storage. The unit is complete and in good sound condition. The (walnut?) cabinet needs repolishing but the fabric is in good condition. The radio unit itself is complete but not working. The speaker is huge and likely to be very powerful with excellent tone. )Electro Magnetic Dynamic LS (moving-coil with field excitation coil) / Ø 8.5 inch = 21.6 cm). It has had a small repair but seems to be in perfect working order. Even though the label on the chassis says it is 110v it must have been changed to 240v for the NZ market. (The previous owner said it was working before he dismantled it.) When plugged in one of the valves glows and there is no smoke so its likely just requiring components we believe are readily available. This model features a phonograph connection. There is a lot of information available in the internet. Simply search for Atwater Kent model 637.
