It's legal to own a backup copy of a game if you own the original.

This laser is in excellent working order. It will play all backup games without issues.

When burning games you must use a decent DVD/CD burner. Use the ImgBurn program when making backups.

Old burners will not burn games well and the PS2 will struggle to load them.

Verbatim DVD's and CD-R's are recommended to burn backups as they are the best quality.
