TransWorld Surf is the surfing game that many fans still call the best of its era, with ocean physics that were way ahead of their time. If you enjoy the trick-chaining flow of the Tony Hawk games, this brings a similar "one more run" feel to the waves instead of the skatepark, with a surf culture twist.

You pick from 13 top-ranked pro surfers, such as Taj Burrows, and take on a tour of famous surf breaks around the world, including Teahupoo in Tahiti, Pipeline in Hawaii and Huntington Beach, California, with the PS2 version adding its own exclusive new location. Developer Angel Studios built a procedural wave system that gives every break its own look and behaviour, and the water is the star of the show. Surfing doesn't happen in a vacuum, so the Karma Meter tracks how you treat other surfers, animals and people in the water: be polite and you earn good karma, but behave rudely and the waves will notice. Rather than chasing prize money, the goal is to earn the cover of TransWorld SURF magazine itself.

The PS2 version has seven game modes, including single-player ProTour, Freesurf and Single Session. Two-player multiplayer brings Freesurf, Competition and King of the Wave, plus the PS2-exclusive Shark Attack mode, where one player surfs and the other plays the shark. A soundtrack of punk, alternative rock, metal, hip-hop and downtempo sets the mood.
