SCART is a 21-pin connector for connecting audio-visual (AV) equipment. It is also known as Péritel (or Peritelevision), 21-pin EuroSCART, Euroconector, EuroAV or EXT. Another name is EIA Multiport (an EIA interface). In Europe, SCART used to be the most common method of connecting AV equipment & was a standard connector for such devices. As it was designed to carry analogue standard-definition content, SCART has become obsolete with the introduction of new digital standards such as HDMI & DisplayPort, which can carry high-definition content & multichannel audio, though it remains commonly used. HDMI-CEC is derived from SCART's AV.link. However, SCART Connection can also support HD signals like 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p & multichannel audio if the SCART connection of a device is designed to support YPbPr connection.

S-Video. Separate Video, commonly termed S-Video, Super-Video & Y/C, is a signalling standard for standard definition video, typically 480i or 576i. It achieves better image quality than composite video but has lower colour resolution than component video.

Composite video is an analogue video transmission that carries standard definition video. The video is encoded on one channel. Composite video is in formats such as NTSC, PAL & SECAM & is often designated by the CVBS initialism, for colour, video, blanking, & sync or video.
