This auction is for 10 x FRESH SEEDS S. quitoense hails from the Andean region of S. America...the Inca homeland, and it is the national fruit of Ecuador. This relative of tomatoes, potatoes, and pepinos takes the form of an large ornamental small shrub to 6 ft tall and 4 ft wide with large purple-veined leaves covered with a soft, downy fuzz. It has an attractive form and lovely flowers but the fruits are the main attraction. The common name Naranjilla means "little orange". The fruits are borne profusely on mature plants and are brightly yellow/orange and are the size of golf balls. It is eaten fresh, made into sorbets, and makes a popular drink. It's flavour is hard to describe - 'sweet, tart, and utterly delicious and tastes like a mix of various tropical fruits'. Among the inhabitants of every country in its home range this is the favourite fruit of all and is esteemed even over Passionfruits for its intense and delicious flavour. Also known as "Lulo" Naranjilla are delicate plants and must be protected from strong winds and direct sunlight. They grow best in partial shade.
