One of a kind, hand carved, Maori trumpet. He Putatara, He Taonga, He Taonga Puoro.
A putatara or shell trumpet with a wooden mouthpiece was a tool used to communicate long distances. The shell is a large Triton conch, and a wooden carved mouthpiece and is connected with Kauri gum (some modern resin has also been used for strength), feathers with muka (flax fibre)
Will be blessed by the carver before starting its journey to its new home. The new owner will be the first to hear the rangi (sound).
This is one of 15 of a series of works I have collaborated with my youngest son. Can courier them within NZ.
