A Nightmare Diary of Nazi Terror
Lord Russell of Liverpool writes: 'This book is based on a diary kept by a young Jewess who was captured in Poland when she was fourteen years old and subjected to enforced prostitution in a Nazi labour camp. It is a terrible story, which, nevertheless, should be read; it shows the depths of bestiality to which Germans sank under Hitler during WWII. The story would be incredible were not the authenticity of its background undisputed.' A stark and compassionate story that once read is impossible to forget.
**An uncommon book. Fans of the band JOY DIVISION may be interested to note that this is the book from which Ian Curtis took the name 'Joy Division', and on page 157 is a passage containing words used in the song 'No Love Lost': '...Through the wire screen, the eyes of those standing outside looked in at her, as into the cage of some rare creature in a zoo... In the hand of one of the assistants she saw the same instrument which they had that morning inserted deep into her body. [She] shuddered instinctively.' [No life at all in the House of Dolls. No love lost. No love lost.] *Sorry, rampant JD fan - rb.
