Description
I had this bike built for me in 1984 so I could participate in the 1985 Coast to Coast. At 6” 7” there were not many bike options around back then! Although it has been a great bike to own and ride I recently came to realise that I have not ridden it anywhere for at least 15…maybe even 20 years! That just seems to be a waste of a great bike.
The bike frame was originally made at the Carlton Factory, Worksop, England in 1977. This was worked this out by a friend of mine from the Serial Number (“WE0007370”) stamped on the bottom bracket of the bike (see photo). Based on a Carton Frame Serial Numbering System (see photo) it seems that that:
- The letter 'W' refers to the factory it was made. In this case W = Worksop (UK)
- The second letter 'E' refers to the month of manufacture. In this case E = April
- The first non-zero digit '7' refers to the year it was made. In this case 7 = 1977.
- The remaining 3 digits '370' probably means it was the 370th made
That makes the bike 41 years this month.
The bike goes. You can get on it and ride it. It was recently serviced. The most significant change was new tyres.
The bike is generally in very good condition. It has some surface rust and a couple of small dents but nothing that compromises the structure of the bike frame. Check out the photos and you will see that one side has some surface rust and the other nothing.

Generally speaking a great old racing bike looking for someone who would enjoy not only riding it but will also look to fully restore it.
