Description

NICELY MADE 12Ga SPANISH DE GASPAR ARIZANGA- EIBAR

1960 Shotgun from the part of Spain where gunmaking is in their DNA. The company was founded 1895, folded 1987.

Metal in pretty good condition, with minimal wear marks and good bluing on barrels
Checkered walnut stock & beavertail forearm with old repair Bores are clean & bright
Action functions Well & locks up tight.

Paladin Armoury, Manufacturer of Custom Firearms.. don't advise going shorter than 10'' barrels due to potential lockup & control issues. In our experience, the 14" barrel with shoulder stock is the best handling configuration.

The traditional coach gun is a double-barrel shotgun featuring external hammers. It was offered in a variety of barrel lengths from 12 to 20'', either by the factory or owners & gunsmiths sawing the barrels. Remington, Lefever, Ithaca, Sharps Arms Manufacturing, Colt, Parker etc. are some of the famous names that made them, still being manufactured by some companies.

The term "Coach gun" was coined 1858 when Wells Fargo & Co began regular stagecoach service from Tipton Missouri to San Francisco California, issuing shotguns to drivers+ guards for defense along the perilous 2,800 mile route. Also used during the Colonial period of Australia.

Doc Holliday used a 10ga Wm. Moore & Co coach gun to shoot Tom McLaury in the chest with buckshot at the OK Corral Gunfight Tombstone, Arizona, Wed Oct 26 1881. Standing in such close proximity that the town mortician was able to cover his wound with a hand. Wyatt Earp also used both barrels of a coachgun to kill "Curly" Bill Brocius point-blank.

Modern coach guns are commonly encountered in Cowboy Action Shooting, among collections of Western guns, as home-defense, even as "scrub guns" for hunting quail, rabbit, hare, and/or wild pig in bush or marshlands, where 24+'' barrels of a traditional shotgun proves unwieldy. The modern coach gun can be had in a variety of configurations suitable for both Cowboy Action Shooting and hunting.
