Just back from this hunting block, great numbers of animals seen heaps of stags in velvet out in the open. highly recommend

Had my stag do here at Verns. Heaps of animals about and a great hut to stay in. We all had a great weekend and will certainly be coming back.

Been visiting Vern’s for a few years now would recommend to all who are after a real west coast hunting experience. Provided you don’t sit in the hut expecting them to walk up onto the deck theres Plenty of animals around, last time I visited we got three animals in three hours never had a problem and always had a great time.

Had an amazing time here with my partner. Filled the freezer and caught some very nice trout. The Hut is well situated to relax after a day hunting and fishing with amazing views up the valley. Plenty of deer seen only shot one as all we needed but could have easily shot a lot more. Highly recommended easy hunting country. Will be back 100%

Have been to Verns block a few times now over the past few years, if your an experienced hunter or a newbie to the hunting scene you definitely should consider contacting Vern and booking in a trip, always helpful in giving advice about where your best chances are most likely to be on landing an animal, we have never 'not' seen an animal there yet, bite the bullet and lock on a trip ??

What a fantastic place. Awesome country great spot for all ages and fitness levels. Great hut to stay in, plenty of animals about. Vern has been great to deal with and Gavin was great showing us around and telling us of spots to go. Will be back.

What can I say other that EPIC. Owner Vern and helper Gavin are quality blokes - excellent comms and helpful intel of animal movement. Great hunting block, suitable roomy enviro accommodation - solar, composting toilet, access is amazing, deer a plenty and big stags, and bird life excellent. I have been to the property 3 times and enjoy it so much and bring new hunters there. Most times I see 50 - 80 animals and take what I require. So book a weekend. Only 2 1/2hrs from Darfield.

Thanks, Vern, Great to have the opportunity to free range hunt and treat two old n weary bodies to some good old fashion hunting while teaching a young lad the finer points of a successful hunt. Great weekend just had at Vern's block. Excellent tour given on arrival, and an ideal run down on what/when/how. Plenty of deer also seen! Goal for the weekend was a good stretch and get some meat, both boxes ticked easily enough following Vern's words of wisdom??. Highly recommend to anyone keen for a great hunting experience (spotted well over a hundred deer for the weekend ??). Thanks Vern, much appreciate your hospitality and your block!!

bit hard to write a review when it's just a great place,3rd time back for myself.on all dealings with vern he is totally great to deal with top bloke.the block is a great place if looking for Dad ,Son time or to get up your hunting experince.always lots Deer about this time trip lots great Animals about .if looking for good Roar hunt best book Quick.Hut is a great platform meat safe is great ,view is great its just great all round experience.wish i could keep it a secret .thanks Vern 10/10

Fantastic hunting! My daughter got her first deer....and we saw about 50 of them within a few hours. No shortage here. Beautiful view from the hut. Fantastic hospitality, we were given the grand tour on our arrival of the boundaries and had helpful friendly conversations. Definitely coming back again. Thanks so much!!

Fantastic place, just back from my 2nd trip and it just gets better and better. When I booked it the first time I didn’t know what to expect but I’d hoped for good animal numbers yet a true hunting experience rather than a fenced game park type deal. I got that and more, great animal numbers, with some big stags to boot, great location and terrain to hunt with lovely bush edge and clearings, awesome little hut with a stunning view. Vern’s also a great guy to deal with, very friendly and helpful

Another awesome weekend at Vern's. Took my son this time. He absolutely loved his first hunting experience. Once again saw plenty of animals and came away with 3 deer. Thanks again Vern, we will definitely be back.

Have taken my son to Vern's place a few times now, I cannot recommend it highly enough! Vern is incredibly accommodating and will give you all of the latest info on where the animals are being seen to give you the very best chance. Most of the block is very easily accessible and great country for hunting. The hut is great with all the facilities you need and a great view. Just do it, you won't regret it!

Just back from an amazing weekend away on Vern's block. Hut was really comfortable with everything we needed and awesome views of the valley below from the front deck. Vern was a great host, really friendly and helpful on where the animals might be hiding. Deer were plentiful and we came home with a huge stag. We're planning a return trip and would genuinely recommend this experience to anyone wanting a relaxing weekend away with an abundance of animals on your doorstep. Thanks heaps Vern.

Hunting this weekend despite the weather was awesome, plenty of deer so no problem getting our feed, awesome hut with amazing views, great host with plenty of pointers to where the deer are. Cheers Vernon, we will definitely be seeing you again. AAA+

Vern's block is a great West Coast experience. We had a successful father and son mid winter weekend. It's really great terrain, a mix of gentle slopes, recovering native forest and river flats. There are plenty of red deer and some pigs around. The hut is private, well set up with a great outlook up the valley. My son (13) shot his first deer after a good stalk, a healthy bush and grass fed red. If you are a hunter and want to introduce someone to hunting, then this is a winner.

Had a fantastic hunting trip with my dad (70yr) and my son (10yr). Saw plenty of deer with two taken for the freezer. Great way of introducing my son to hunting. Highly recommended. Will definitely be back.

Just had 5 days hunting on verns block what an outstounding host and an awesome block heaps of deer plenty roaring awesome hut with everything you need we will definitely be back at some stage well worth the trip from matamata would be one of my best hunting trips in 40 years of hunting thanks vern

well worth a visit, very cosy well set up hut, great location, Vern is a very helpful fella and full of advice and information on where animals may likely be, that being said hes not guiding you on a hunt!, you are the one doing the hunting! which is what we wanted!, there are good animal numbers around and id be extremely surprised if you DIDNT at least see an animal, mixture of open bush and bush hunting, and open flats, Vern cheers buddy we will most definately be back, AAA+ Greg

Went on a father and son hunt a few weeks ago. We are not the most experienced but Verns explanation about the area and prime spots for locating animals made up for this. We had a great stalk just after first light and managed to secure some meat for the freezer. Highly recommended way to spend a couple days in the great outdoors WestCoast style. Hopefully we will be back in the near future. Thanks again!

We had a full adventure weekend at the block. Took the kids and cousins aiming to get them in front of animals and we couldn't be happier. Deer shot and pig sightings for the team. The block has lots of open land, bush edges and clearings to hunt. The hut was everything you need with amazing views. A classic West Coast location with plenty of animals. We all came away stoked with the adventure and gloating over our success. Memories for everyone.

Amazing place to take the kids hunting. Easy access and loads of animals to keep the young ones interested. Amazing views from the very comfortable hut. Couldn’t ask for anything more. Will be back again in the future.

Cold called Vern on an unplanned road trip up West Coast with the wife. Had no hunting gear so it was a bit of a wing & a Prayer. Met Vern & Russel at a cafe & it was sorted. We had a couple of memorable nights & days on the block. Real West Coast hospitality here. Weather was against us for hunting. However plenty of other highlights to remember. Weka,Wee drink with Vern at the hut,Satilites at night,Local history from Russel. Being trusted to have the run of the property! : ) TY Rich & Brenda

Just back from a weekend trip to Vern's block. Great hut. plenty of valuable advice from Vern and great hunting even though the weather wasn't the best. An awesome time had by all. I though the previous review that said they saw 90 beasts was possibly bs. I'm now a believer.

Spent 3 nights at Verns hut with a mate. We had a fantastic weekend hunting. Seeing upwards of 12 deer directly below the hut certainly got the blood pumping. Vern is a wealth of knowledge and knows that block like the back of his hand. If you walk away empty handed then you might aswell buy some golf clubs on your way home then. Vern made us feel very welcome and made sure we were happy the whole time. Fantastic hut, good bastard host, and ripper hunting. Cheers Vern, Perry.

Had a bloody good weekend at Verns with a mate. Verns not shy of putting you onto some animals and offers tips on how to hunt the various spots that are available there. The hut is an awesome little shack in a beautiful location. Between us we got 4 deer and 2 pigs but had the opportunity to polax more. we easily would have seen over 90 deer for the weekend. All in all a bloody great spot with awesome hospitality. I would highly recommend to anyone, I didn't want to leave the Valley.

just back from a flying visit to Verns block, an awesome wkend & Vern cant do enough to make you welcome & help get you onto animals (but as he states it is unguided & free range which is what we wanted!) the hut is comfortable and plenty of room for the 2 of us, could probably fit 3-4 , pot belly running tank water with kitchen sink solar lights & a New Loo! hunting is either drive and walk or stalking if your keen lots of variety here! thanks Vern we'll be back!
