Japan gold 2 bu (Maiji Nibu Kin), 1868-69. 20x11.5 mm. The last of the rectangular silver-gold coins before the introduction of the "Western-style" Yen coinage in 1870. Specs: 2.45 g, .223 gold and .777 silver. Even at just over half a gram of gold, that's still around NZ$150 worth (as at 28 November 2025). Note: Looks yellower in real life than in the photos!
