2020 St. Helena 1 oz French .999 Silver Trade Dollar Restrike Series:- BU

The East India Company-branded Trade Dollar bullion series concludes with the release of the 2020-dated French Trade Dollar. One of the many influential foreign nations in the Asia-Pacific trade region, France issued trade dollars with a standardized size and silver content in the 19th century to stabilize the monetary supply and system across its vast Indo-Chinese colonies.

France had a vast network of colonies in the Asia-Pacific region of the world in the 19th century. One of its largest colonial concentrations was in a region referred to Indo-China, a region that today is known as Southeast Asia in and around Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. To better stabilize its colonial monetary system following the British Opium Wars with China, France introduced a trade dollar for its colonies in the area.

Americans might recognize the female personification featured on the original French Trade Dollar introduced in 1885. The seated female figure is very similar to the Seated Liberty design used on American coinage throughout the mid-1800s and even wears a crown formed by rays of sunshine similar to that of the Statue of Liberty gifted to the people of the United States.

Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse of the 2020 1 oz French Trade Dollar Silver Coin. Her Majesty is shown here in the right-profile relief created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley. The fourth-generation portrait created for the Royal Mint, this design depicts Her Majesty wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.
