Stunning gold and enamel watch key/fob from a Georgian enamelled pocket watch which was part of a chatelaine circa 1800. This is champleve enamel and most likely French is origin as this was a speciality of the French dating back to the 12th century. Originally this had a tiny small chain attached at both sides of the key and would have been attached to the Chatelaine. The end is a fob made from bloodstone and carved with an Eagle. This would have been used to seal notes with wax and predates stamps. The core is steel as it was used to wind the pocket watch mechanism.

I had a jeweller remodel this as a pendant or charm and the O ring had to be joined at the end so as to not melt the stunning delicate enamel work. This would also make a fabulous charm as it is 25mm long, 8.5mm wide at the fob and weighs 3.4 grams. It is pictured with a gold dipped sterling silver chain and will come in the luxury leather and velvet box pictured.

I have included photo's of an enamel women's pocket watch with key and a Chatelaine to give a context to how this was worn and used. Watches and Chatelaines of this quality were unbelievably expensive and only worn by courtiers, nobles or wealthy merchants. Every aspect was hand done and today the equivalent would be phillipe patek and Rolex.
