A rare Victorian mourning ring 15ct gold set with jet (fossilized wood) This was extensively used at this time after Victoria lost her beloved Albert and wore nothing but black . Most jet was sourced from Whitby and faceted to create stones that were then set.This ring is circa 1860-1880. There has been some restoration under the ring. The hairwork is plaited and set under rock crystal. There is extensive floral repousse work around the entire shank. This is not hallmarked but has been tested.

This ring is in very good condition for its age and is currently an M fitting which is a size below the average of N. Is not suitable for resizing. It currently weighs 4 grams. Will come in a black and gold leather reproduction antique box.

Rings of this vintage are not only handmade but all stones are hand cut and they are irreplaceable.
