Original War Medal 1939–1945, issued to Commonwealth service personnel for full-time operational or non-operational service during the Second World War. Obverse: crowned profile of King George VI, legend “GEORGIVS VI D:G: BR OMN REX ET INDIAE IMP”. Reverse: magnificent lion standing over a defeated two-headed dragon, symbolising victory over Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan, with the years 1939 – 1945. Made of cupro-nickel (silver-coloured). Designed by Edward Carter Preston (artist initials ECP). ?? Eligibility & History Awarded to all full-time members of the armed forces and merchant navy who completed at least 28 days of service between 3 September 1939 and 2 September 1945.
