I bought this Fantastic hunting rifle in Germany recently. About 400 years Old ! I’ve Tested it… Works GREAT ! See that 2nd, flared out photo. I’ve bought in 14 countries now, and I’m not doing this anymore. Too expensive and too difficult. Deer Antler cover. Nice maker’s Cartouche has been stamped into the top of the barrel when soft. Another sign of a GENUINE 17th century carbine. I haven’t been able to match it exactly. A FUN project for You, the Buyer! Most Unusual Pentagonal rifling. Most are even numbers … like a 1670 Volley gun is Hexagonal, in each of the 7 barrels. Bore is very slightly swelled at muzzle to make loading easier. Another sign of GENUINE pre 18th century. These sometimes had a Plug bayonet. Rather than striking a flint like a Flintlock, this Wheel lock has I toothed wheel. So… you rotate the cock, so Pyrite or flint is held by spring onto the wheel…. Then, when the trigger is pulled or pushed, a big spring pulls the wheel around and makes a spark, like a modern lighter. That ignites the gunpowder in that pan with the sliding cover, and the flare hopefully ignites the Main charge in the barrel. As you can see, Wheel locks have far more moving parts, than a flintlock. I’ve removed the lock so you can see it’s all old and genuine. These 400yr old springs were only hardened iron and so were brittle. I broke one the other day when I tested the action ! DARN! It’d been broken and repaired, many years ago. I’ll keep it as a display. Comes with neat powder measure combination, cocking spanner. This looks genuine to the 17th, or 16th century, but fits a bit too loosely now. Soft iron wears easily. The stock doesn’t fit to your shoulder. That’s because the recoil wasn’t strong, it’s held by your cheek. Guns mostly had ‘Cheek Stocks’ till mid 1600s, not ‘Shoulder Stocks’ as were invented in late 1600s. Added another photo of a similar carbine, so you can see it was typical of that time. Pick up available, so Come visit in Hawkes Bay if you buy. Or shipped at your cost ($120 ?). Lex
