Paul Dibble Sculpture – 2002 (Unnumbered, Inscribed)

This is an original bronze sculpture by the late Paul Dibble (1943–2022), one of New Zealand’s most important sculptors. The work is inscribed “Paul Dibble 2002” on the side, though it is unnumbered, so I can’t confirm whether it is an AP or part of an edition. It was gifted to me around three years ago, and I don’t have the full provenance — so it is being sold as-is, where-is.

A similar work (likely an Artist’s Proof) sold at Art+Object for $36,000, and Webb’s previously provided an insurance appraisal of $40,000 for this piece. Please note: this sculpture spent many years outdoors before I owned it, and I later had it professionally cleaned and removed from its plinth. I was told afterwards that it ideally shouldn’t have been cleaned, but that’s already been done.

The sculpture is extremely heavy (approx. 30kg) and beautifully cast, typical of Dibble’s early-2000s work. He has since passed away and no further works are being produced, making these increasingly hard to find.
