A fabulous read and a great friendship. Very old. Fantastic for a collector. Has some penciled written details inside (see pic) and a gift inscribed. First book printed same year as first edition, 1872. I think the last two books are first editions 1873 & 1874. John Forster's The Life of Charles Dickens (1872–1874) is a seminal three-volume biography written by Dickens’s closest friend, advisor, and executor. The work is highly regarded for its intimate, first-hand account of the novelist's life, including details from his childhood and early career, though some critics note its "dry writing at times" and sentimental, mournful tone. Volume I (1812–1842): Focuses on Dickens's childhood, early struggles, and rise to fame. Volume II (1842–1852): Covers his travels to America, middle-period novels, and personal life. Volume III (1852–1870): Details his later years, the public readings, and his death. Publication History: Originally published by Chapman & Hall, the first editions were released in three separate volumes between 1872 and 1874.
