THE FIRST AND THE LAST – THE GERMAN FIGHTER FORCE IN WORLD WAR II by Adolf Galland
Foreword by Douglas Bader
This book is historically very accurate & well written by one of the most heavily involved fighter pilots of the Luftwaffe in World War II.
The book focuses on the battle against the Western allies mostly as this was where Galland was stationed for the majority of the war, it is filled with all the obstacles the fighting units faced from the Nazi high command, which was one of the reasons for it's ultimate defeat by the Allies.
There are also some nice anecdotes from his times with the different units and it's pilots, which is along the lines of the classic British pilots' memoirs.
Two stand out chapters are where they organized the delivery of Douglas Bader's prosthetic legs and the Channel Dash operation which was probably one of the biggest German successes / British blunders during the war.
