This book by Charles F Holder was published in 1908. by the Outing Publishing Company. in New York. The first chapter starts with a description of harpooning, persuing and subduing a giant "devil Ray", with photos to prove it. Other chapters catch the early marlin fishing and bottom fishing for many species. He speaks of swordfish and tuna, barracuda and yellowtail, albacore and bonita and all are equal. He tells of "new" gamefish entering the californian pacific coast fishery at a time when catches were waning, A revitalisation after heay commercial fishing thinned numbers. Remember all this was about the late 1800's. Sharks played an important part in the catches in those days and there are several shark photos. Considering the tackle they were using then catches were amazing. The copy of the book offered is in exceptional conditions with a bright, cover with gilt title. spine is titled in gilt with the name and the publisher. A worthy addition to any fishing library!
