Description
A very rare, handmade lens, designed, manufactured, and hand-assembled in Japan by Mr Sadayasu Miyazaki. MS Optical original design MS Optical Sonnetar 50/1.1 rangefinder lens (black) in Leica M mount. Similar in design to the Leitz Sonnar and just as quirky. A Miyazaki lens is well put together, well engineered, and made from high-quality materials. The lenses are hand assembled by one man, so each one is subtly different. As they are hand assembled you will find that they don’t feel like the factory made lenses of Zeiss etc, they are simpler affairs, like miniature optical jewels. There’s one other thing that makes the MS-Optics 50mm f/1.1 even more eccentric, and that’s the “coma adjuster”. At the very rear of the lens there is a dial with 4 markings that lets you move the rear element group backwards or forwards effectively changing the focal length of the lens.
This example is in fine, near-new condition and comes with the original metal screw-in lens cap and reversible lens shade. Warning: this is not a cheap lens! Note the serial # - this is number 136 of a total of 200 made.
For those of you unfamilliar with MS Optics, look it up - whether you buy or not, the provenance is fascinating. I'm also selling a MS Optics Perar 21mm f 4.5 pancake lens. Look for it in another Trade Me listing.
