Description
A bit of history in your garden or building. Help a grassroots charity and use sustainable, characterful, hardwood. Governors Bay Jetty was rebuilt and opened to the public in September 2023. The old jetty was dismantled and is now available to buy. The timber is Australian hardwood - most likely red ironbark. It was imported by Lyttelton Harbour Board in 1913 for its wharves in Whakaraupo (Lyttelton Harbour). This auction is for a large stack of hardwood stringers and pile caps, plus some odds and ends. There's around 20 pieces of timber at 4m approx - that's 80 linear metres. With a starting price of $2000 for this large stack of timber (and a reserve not much higher), this is a bargain. Search TradeMe for hardwood and you'll see that hardwood beams and piles are selling for at least $50 per metre (i.e. $4000 for 80m). But we are a charity run by volunteers with limited time, and we want these sold. If you want to view before you bid on this auction, you can get hold of us via the save the jetty website. The buyer will need to pick up from Teddington (near Governors Bay) and will need to use a Hiab or similar; the timber is too heavy to move by hand.
