


Description
The NZ Blueberry or Turutu is a hardy tufted plant that resembles a small, fine-leaved flax. Found across New Zealand in open forests and on banks from sea level to 760m, this species grows to about 60 cm high. It produces insignificant flowers from late spring to summer, followed by its most ornamental feature: its berries. These berries range from dark purple to blue and can sometimes be pale in colour, offering an attractive display.
It grows in sun or semi-shade and thrives in various soil conditions. It prefers a moist, well-drained site but is also adaptable to drier conditions in humid areas. This plant is ideal for use as ground cover or as a general garden plant.
